Douris zugeschriebener athenischer Becher mit roten Figuren Das Foto zeigt in einem bogenförmigen Ausschnitt die Bemalung eines Bechers. In Orange sind mehrere Figuren auf schwarzem Grund aufgebracht. Die Szene beschreibt wie die Bacchantinnen Pentheus, den Sohn von Echion und Agaue, zerreißen. Als Bacchantinnen bezeichnet man Anhängerinnen des römischen Weingottes Bacchus. Auf dem Becher erscheinen sie als vier Frauengestalten, deren schwarze Haare im Nacken zusammengefasst sind. Das Schwarz der Haare wird durch einen feinen hellen Umriss vom schwarzen Untergrund abgegrenzt. Eine der Frauen trägt ein Kopftuch, die anderen drei je ein schmales Band um den Kopf. Alle sind in lange tunikaartige Gewänder gehüllt. Schwarze dünne Striche markieren Muster im Stoff. Die Bacchantin ganz links trägt ein einfaches Obergewand, Himation, darüber. Ihre linke Schulter und der linke Arm sind nicht bedeckt. In der rechten Hand hält sie ein Messer. Die Frau rechts neben ihr umfasst ein Hemation mit beiden Händen auf Taillenhöhe vor dem Bauch. Ihr Blick ist auf die übrigen beiden Bacchantinnen gerichtet, die Pentheus' Oberkörper mit seinem Kopf zwischen sich halten. Von der Öffnung seines zerrissenen Oberkörpers hängen dünne haarähnliche Fäden herab, die das Verschütten von viszeralem Blut andeuten könnten. Die Frauen haben die seitlich ausgestreckten Arme mit jeweils einer Hand gepackt, mit der freien Hand greifen sie beide in sein lockiges schwarzes Haar. Die Frauen tragen hüftlange Umhänge über ihren Untergewändern. Im rechten Abschnitt zeichnet sich eine kniende nackte Männergestalt mit Vollbart ab, die abwehrend beide Hände hebt. Die Szene erscheint auf mehreren Gefäßen aus Athen. Der hier gezeigte Becher gilt als das am besten erhaltene Stück. Er wird dem griechischen Vasenmaler Douris zugeschrieben, der am Ende des 6. und im 5. Jahrhundert vor Christus in Athen arbeitete. Außer Vasen bemalte er auch Schalen mit roten Figuren. — — Athenian Cup with Red Figures Attributed to Douris The photo shows an arched section of a painting on a cup. Several figures are painted in orange on a black background. The scene depicts how the bacchantes tear apart Pentheus, the son of Echion and Agave. The bacchantes are followers of the Roman god of wine, Bacchus. On the cup, they appear as four female figures whose black hair is gathered at the nape of the neck. The black of the hair is delineated from the black background by a fine light outline. One of the women wears a headscarf, while the other three women each have a narrow band around the head. All are wrapped in long tunic-like robes. Thin black lines mark patterns in the fabric. The bacchante on the far left wears a simple outer garment and himation over it. Her left shoulder and arm are not covered. She holds a knife in her right hand. The woman to her right clasps a himation with both hands at waist level in front of her stomach. Her gaze is fixed on the remaining two bacchantes, who are holding Pentheus' torso with his head between them. Hanging from the opening of his torn torso are thin hair-like threads which might convey the spillage of visceral blood. The women have each gripped his arms stretched out to the side with one hand, and with their free hand, they both grasp his curly black hair. The women wear hip-length cloaks over their undergarments. In the section to the right, a kneeling naked male figure with a full beard stands out, raising both hands in a defensive manner. This scene appears on several vessels from Athens. The cup shown here is considered the best preserved piece. It is attributed to the Greek vase painter Douris, who worked in Athens at the end of the 6th and in the 5th century BC. In addition to vases, he also painted bowls with red figures.

The spot is positioned in a shadowy, grey-blue, diffusing, and round arch that is cut off at the top. The light spot is almost luminous white in the upper area. Towards the top and bottom, it becomes increasingly grey with a rough textured surface. A pale mist-like stripe extends to the upper edge of the photo.

Eine weibliche Figur mit offenem Torso Die bräunlich-graue Statue ohne Kopf wurde 1885 in Mittelitalien, südöstlich von Rom ausgegraben. Sie stammt aus der Zeit zwischen dem 4. und 2. Jahrhundert vor Christus. Die Figur aus Terrakotta ist 26,5 Zentimeter hoch. Neben dem Kopf fehlen die linke Schulter und die Füße. Trotz des Verlustes dieser Körperteile lässt sich eine aufrechte Haltung erkennen. Die Frauengestalt scheint auf ihrem rechten Bein zu stehen, das linke ist etwas angewinkelt. Der rechte Arm hängt am Körper herab, vom linken ist der Unterarm erhalten, der in die Hüfte gestützt ist. Der Torso ist in ein fließendes knöchellanges Gewand gehüllt. An der Schulter, um die Hüften und zum Knöchel hin ist es üppig gefaltet. Der rechte Arm ist bis zum Ellenbogen bedeckt. Ein vertikal verlaufender ovaler Ausschnitt zieht sich vom Brustbein bis zur Scham. Darin sind die inneren Organe sichtbar. Ein senkrecht stehender Quader unterhalb des Brustbeins bezeichnet das Herz. Ein würfelförmiges Gebilde darunter stellt den Magen dar. An der breitesten Stelle, in der Mitte des Ausschnitts, befindet sich der waagerecht verlaufende Darm. Seine senkrecht angeordneten Schlingen füllen das gesamte Zentrum aus. Unterhalb des Darms liegen weitere Organe wie die Nieren. Die Statue war vermutlich eine Opfergabe, verbunden mit der Heilung erkrankter Organe oder stand im Zusammenhang mit dem Wunsch nach Fruchtbarkeit. — — A Female Figure with an Open Torso This brownish-grey statue without a head was excavated in 1885 in central Italy, southeast of Rome. It dates from the period between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. The terracotta figure is 26.5 centimetres high. Besides the head, the left shoulder and the feet are also missing. Despite the loss of these body parts, an upright posture can be discerned. The female figure appears to be standing on her right leg and the left leg is slightly bent. The right arm hangs down the body, and the forearm of the left arm is preserved, supported on the hip. The torso is wrapped in a flowing ankle-length robe. It is luxuriantly folded at the shoulder, around the hips and towards the ankle. The right arm is covered up to the elbow. There is a vertical oval-shaped cutout that runs from the breastbone to the pubic region. The internal organs are visible within it. There is a vertically upright cuboid below the sternum indicating the heart. A cube-shaped structure below it indicates the stomach. There is a horizontally running intestine in the middle of the cutout at its widest point. Its vertically arranged loops fill the entire centre. Below the intestine are other organs such as the kidneys. It is probable that the statue was a votive offering associated with the healing of diseased organs or was related to the desire for fertility.

Von Euphronios signierter athenischer Krater mit roten Figuren Das Terrakottagefäß mit Henkeln stammt aus einem etruskischen Grab des 6. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. Der Ausschnitt zeigt eine Szene aus Homers Ilias, in der Zeus‘ Sohn Sarpedon von Patroklos getötet wurde. Ein Krater ist ein griechisches Weinmischgefäß in Form eines Topfes, der sich nach oben hin verbreitert. Der obere und untere Rand des hier gezeigten Kraters ist mit einem orangefarbenen Schnörkelmuster verziert. Auch die Figuren darauf sind in Orange gehalten. Sie heben sich deutlich vom schwarzen Untergrund ab. In der Mitte der Szene ist Sarpedon auf der Seite liegend erkennbar. Sein Körper nimmt etwa die untere Hälfte der Darstellung ein. Seine Beine sind leicht angewinkelt, der rechte Arm liegt vor dem Körper. Die in Braun aufgemalten welligen Haare fallen ihm auf die Schultern. Der athletische Körper ist unbekleidet. Dünne rote Linien verlaufen vom Herzbereich schräg nach links unten, ebenso von Bauch und rechtem Oberschenkel. Sarpedon wird an Knien und Schultern von zwei menschlichen Gestalten mit Adlerflügeln und Adlerköpfen gehalten. Sie tragen kurze Tuniken. Die schwarzen Vollbärte stehen waagerecht vom Kinn ab. Die Gestalten sind die Personifizierungen von Schlaf und Tod. Mittig hinter Sarpedon steht eine weitere Figur aufrecht nach links gewandt.Es ist Hermes. Seine rechte Hand ist erhoben, in der linken hält er den Stab. Auf dem Kopf sitzt der geflügelte Helm. Darunter quellen gewellte schwarze Haare hervor, die ihm bis auf die Schultern fallen. Er trägt einen Umhang über einem tunikaartigen Untergewand. Links und rechts wird die Szene von je einem Soldaten mit Speer und Schild eingerahmt. Diese Figuren sind in dem dargestellten Ausschnitt nur teilweise erkennbar. Dieser Krater von Euphronios hat ein Fassungsvermögen von 45 Litern. Euphronios war einer der bedeutendsten griechischen Vasenmaler des rotfigurigen Stils. Das Gefäß wird im Museo Nazionale Archeologico Cerite in der Nähe von Rom aufbewahrt. — — Athenian Krater Signed by Euphronios with Red Figures The photo shows a section of a terracotta vessel with handles. It comes from an Etruscan tomb of the 6th century BC. This section depicts a scene from Homer's Iliad in which Zeus' son, Sarpedon, was killed by Patroklos. A krater is a Greek wine-mixing vessel in the shape of a pot that widens towards the top. The upper and lower rims of the krater shown here are decorated with an orange scroll pattern. The figures on it are also in orange and clearly stand out against the black background. In the middle of the scene, Sarpedon can be seen lying on his side. His body takes up about the lower half of the depiction. His legs are slightly bent, and his right arm is in front of his body. The wavy hair, painted in brown, falls to his shoulders. His athletic body is unclothed. Thin red lines run diagonally from the heart area down to the left, as well as from the abdomen and right thigh. Sarpedon is held at the knees and shoulders by two human figures with eagle wings and eagle heads. They are wearing short tunics. Their full black beards stand out horizontally from the chin. They are the personifications of sleep and death. In the centre behind Sarpedon stands another figure standing upright and facing to the left. It is Hermes. His right hand is raised, and on his left, he holds a staff. A winged helmet sits on his head. Wavy black hair spills out from under it, falling to his shoulders. He wears a cloak over a tunic-like undergarment. On either side, the scene is framed by a soldier with a spear and shield. These figures are only partially visible in the photo shown. This krater signed by Euphronios has a capacity of 45 litres. Euphronios was one of the most important Greek vase painters of the red-figure style. This krater is located in the Cerite National Archeological Museum near Rome.

Bernardino Capitelli, Anatomische Sektion, ca. 1604-1639 — Die Schwarz-Weiß Radierung im Querformat ist eine Reproduktion und zeigt zwei Männer mit Messinstrumenten an einem Tisch. Darauf liegt eine Leiche. Der Tisch besteht aus einer Platte auf zwei niedrigen Böcken. Sie ist so lang wie die Leiche darauf. Die Leiche liegt auf dem Rücken. Ihr rechter Arm hängt über die Tischkante herab. Die Hand berührt den Boden. Der Bauchraum ist geöffnet. Er erscheint dunkel. Eine kleine brennende Kerze ist in den Brustkorb des Leichnams am unteren Ende des Brustbeins eingelassen. Hinter dem Kopfende des Tisches kniet einer der Männer. Mit der rechten Hand hat er sich auf einen Zirkel gestützt. Die Enden des Zirkels stehen auf dem Boden. Den linken Arm hat er in Richtung des anderen Mannes am Fußende des Tisches ausgestreckt. Sein Oberkörper scheint unbekleidet zu sein. Er trägt einen Schurz und einen flachen Hut mit breiter Krempe. Kopf und Hals des Mannes sind schwarz gezeichnet. Gesichtszüge sind nicht zu erkennen. Der Mann am Fußende sitzt auf einem Hocker. In seiner linken Hand hält er die Spitze eines Dreieckslineals, dass über seine Schulter ragt. Den rechten Arm hat er ausgestreckt. Die Hand befindet sich in der Bauchhöhle der Leiche. Der Mann trägt ein Oberteil mit gepolsterten Ärmelansätzen an den Oberarmen. A corpse is lying on it. The table is as long as the cadaver lying on it and consists of a plate on two low trestles. The corpse is lying on its back. Its right arm hangs down over the edge of the table and its hand is touching the floor. The abdominal cavity is open and appears dark. There is a small lit candle inserted into the corpse’s ribcage at the bottom of the sternum. Behind the head of the table, one of the men is kneeling. With his right hand, he has supported himself on a compass. The ends of the compass are on the floor. His left arm is stretched out towards the other man at the foot of the table. His upper body appears to be unclothed. He is wearing an apron and a flat hat with a wide brim. The man's head and neck are heavily etched in black. His facial features are not visible. The man at the foot of the table is sitting on a stool. In his left hand, he is holding the tip of a triangular ruler that is sticking out over his shoulder. His right arm is stretched out and his hand is in the corpse’s abdominal cavity. The man is wearing a top with padded sleeve attachments on the upper arms. A flat hat with a wide brim shades parts of his face.

In the middle of the photo, the discreetly illuminated head and neck of a young woman surrounded by pastel-like glowing spheres can be dimly seen. Her hairstyle merges with the background. Irregularly arranged to the left and right of her reddish-brown illuminated head, are about 20 round and luminous spheres in different shades of yellow and orange. They are connected by a cable that is illuminated in the colour of the spheres. They form a wide, abstracted, and angular U-shape. The head is in the baseline of the U-shape. Above the head is a dark green triangle made of coarse fabric. It is shoulder-width and tapers towards the top. The fabric is wrinkled and reflects black-and-white light. It is draped in layers and reaches the upper edge of the picture.
