Illustration zu De Arte Physicali et de Cirurgia (John Arderne zugeschrieben) Die Buchseite zeigt die farbige Abbildung eines männlichen Körpers in Vorderansicht. Er ist von einem lateinischen Text ergänzt, der die Seite links und rechts vom Körper vollständig füllt. Die Körperdarstellung erstreckt sich über nahezu die gesamte Höhe der Buchseite. Oberhalb des Kopfes und unterhalb der Füße ist jeweils ein schmaler Rand. Kopf und Hals sind im Querschnitt abgebildet und erscheinen doppelt, wie bei einem aufgeklappten Scherenschnitt, dessen Falz am Hinterkopf verläuft. Das obere Drittel beider Kopfdarstellungen nimmt das in Weiß halbkreisförmig abgebildete Gehirn ein. Darunter ziehen sich bis in den Halsbereich netzartig dünne rote Linien. In beiden Hälsen ist eine Halswirbelsäule erkennbar. Beide Wirbelsäulen vereinigen sich auf Schulterhöhe. Sie erinnern an Schläuche. Mit roten Querstrichen ist die Abtrennung der einzelnen Wirbel markiert. Im Kinnbereich setzen mit einem dunkleren Rot, ebenfalls schlauchartig dargestellt, die Speiseröhren an, die v-förmig aufeinander zustreben, um sich nahe des Herzens im geöffneten Torso zu verbinden. Die Arme sind angewinkelt, die Ellenbogen weisen zu den Seiten. Die Hände scheinen unter die Rippen zu greifen, um den Brustkorb offen zu halten. Darin liegt das in Rottönen dargestellte Herz. Es nimmt fast den gesamten Raum oberhalb des Zwerchfells ein. Unterhalb liegen der länglich dargestellte Magen und der in Wellenformen abgebildete Darm. Zwei Schnittkanten verlaufen vertikal von oben bis zu den Genitalien über den Torso. Sie sind in einem kräftigen Rot gehalten. Entlang der Schnittkanten sind immer wieder kurze, im gleichen Rotton ausgeführte Striche sichtbar. Das Rot erinnert an Blut. Die Füße stehen schräg, hüftbreit auseinander. Wie die Arme sind die Beine als weiße Flächen mit dunkler Umrandung abgebildet. Im schwarz geschriebenen Text sind einzelne Worte und Sätze in Rot ausgeführt. Auffällig sind sechs größere Symbole, die unregelmäßig darin auftauchen. Sie sind in Blau gehalten. Eines erinnert an ein auf der Seite liegendes groß geschriebenes H. Der Titel der Handschrift aus dem 15. Jahrhundert ließe sich frei mit „Die Kunst des Körpers und der Chirurgie“ übersetzen. Sie lässt sich auf den englischen Chirurgen John Arderne zurückführen, der im 14. Jahrhundert praktizierte. — — Illustration to De Arte Physicali et de Cirurgia (attributed to John Arderne) The book page shows a coloured illustration of a male body in front view. It is complemented by a Latin text that completely fills the page to the left and right of the body. The depiction of the body extends over almost the entire height of the book page. There is a narrow margin above the head and below the feet. The head and neck are depicted in cross-section and appear double, like an unfolded silhouette whose fold runs along the back of the head. The upper third part of both head depictions is taken up by the brain, which is depicted by a white semi-circular shape. Below it, thin red lines extend into the neck area like a net. A cervical spine is visible in both necks. Both spines join at shoulder level and resemble tubes. The separation of the individual vertebrae is marked with red horizontal lines. In the area near the chins, the oesophagi are also depicted as tubes. They are dark red and move towards each other in a V-shape to join near the heart in the open torso. The arms are bent, and the elbows point to the sides. The hands seem to reach under the ribs to hold the chest open. The heart lies within and is depicted in shades of red. It occupies almost the entire space above the diaphragm. Below the heart is an elongated stomach and the intestines are depicted in wavy forms. Across the torso, a bold red outline runs vertically from the top, near the neck, to the genitals, resembling cut edges. Repetitive short strokes in the same shade of red are visible along the cut edges. The red is reminiscent of blood. The feet are at an angle and hip-width apart. Similar to the arms, the legs are depicted as white areas with a dark border. Within the written black text, individual words and sentences are depicted in red. Most noticeable are six larger symbols that appear irregularly throughout the text. They are blue coloured. One of them is reminiscent of a capital H lying on the page. The title of the 15th-century manuscript could be freely translated as "The Art of the Body and Surgery". It can be traced back to the English surgeon John Arderne, who practised in the 14th century.

Bernardino Capitelli, Anatomische Sektion, ca. 1604-1639 — Die Schwarz-Weiß Radierung im Querformat ist eine Reproduktion und zeigt zwei Männer mit Messinstrumenten an einem Tisch. Darauf liegt eine Leiche. Der Tisch besteht aus einer Platte auf zwei niedrigen Böcken. Sie ist so lang wie die Leiche darauf. Die Leiche liegt auf dem Rücken. Ihr rechter Arm hängt über die Tischkante herab. Die Hand berührt den Boden. Der Bauchraum ist geöffnet. Er erscheint dunkel. Eine kleine brennende Kerze ist in den Brustkorb des Leichnams am unteren Ende des Brustbeins eingelassen. Hinter dem Kopfende des Tisches kniet einer der Männer. Mit der rechten Hand hat er sich auf einen Zirkel gestützt. Die Enden des Zirkels stehen auf dem Boden. Den linken Arm hat er in Richtung des anderen Mannes am Fußende des Tisches ausgestreckt. Sein Oberkörper scheint unbekleidet zu sein. Er trägt einen Schurz und einen flachen Hut mit breiter Krempe. Kopf und Hals des Mannes sind schwarz gezeichnet. Gesichtszüge sind nicht zu erkennen. Der Mann am Fußende sitzt auf einem Hocker. In seiner linken Hand hält er die Spitze eines Dreieckslineals, dass über seine Schulter ragt. Den rechten Arm hat er ausgestreckt. Die Hand befindet sich in der Bauchhöhle der Leiche. Der Mann trägt ein Oberteil mit gepolsterten Ärmelansätzen an den Oberarmen. Ein flacher Hut mit breiter Krempe beschattet Teile seines Gesichts. —— Bernardino Capitelli, Anatomical Dissection, ca. 1604-1639 — This black-and-white etching in landscape format is a copy and shows two men with measuring instruments at a table. A corpse is lying on it. The table is as long as the cadaver lying on it and consists of a plate on two low trestles. The corpse is lying on its back. Its right arm hangs down over the edge of the table and its hand is touching the floor. The abdominal cavity is open and appears dark. There is a small lit candle inserted into the corpse’s ribcage at the bottom of the sternum. Behind the head of the table, one of the men is kneeling. With his right hand, he has supported himself on a compass. The ends of the compass are on the floor. His left arm is stretched out towards the other man at the foot of the table. His upper body appears to be unclothed. He is wearing an apron and a flat hat with a wide brim. The man's head and neck are heavily etched in black. His facial features are not visible. The man at the foot of the table is sitting on a stool. In his left hand, he is holding the tip of a triangular ruler that is sticking out over his shoulder. His right arm is stretched out and his hand is in the corpse’s abdominal cavity. The man is wearing a top with padded sleeve attachments on the upper arms. A flat hat with a wide brim shades parts of his face.

The ‘Piacenza Liver’

Der Platz im Universum Das Lightpainting Foto ist im Querformat mit schwarzem Hintergrund. In the middle of the photo, the discreetly illuminated head and neck of a young woman surrounded by pastel-like glowing spheres can be dimly seen. Her hairstyle merges with the background. Irregularly arranged to the left and right of her reddish-brown illuminated head, are about 20 round and luminous spheres in different shades of yellow and orange. They are connected by a cable that is illuminated in the colour of the spheres. They form a wide, abstracted, and angular U-shape. The head is in the baseline of the U-shape. Above the head is a dark green triangle made of coarse fabric. It is shoulder-width and tapers towards the top. The fabric is wrinkled and reflects black-and-white light. It is draped in layers and reaches the upper edge of the picture.
