The sea of qi and the diaphragm

Das Meer des Qi und das Zwerchfell Nebeneinander abgebildet sind zwei Manuskripte aus Japan. Das linke ist etwa eineinhalb mal so groß wie das rechte und koloriert. Beide Seiten zeigen in unterschiedlicher Größe und Form den gleichen anatomischen Gegenstand. Blatt "A" auf der linken Seite ist vergilbt und leicht gewellt. In seiner Mitte befindet sich eine wolkenförmige rosa Fläche mit einer klaren Umrandung. Ein roter Streifen säumt sie an ihren geschwungenen Rändern unten und rechts. In der Wolke befindet sich ein abgegrenztes ovales Zentrum, das teilweise rot eingefärbt ist. Daraus ragen drei braungraue Röhren empor, die leicht nach rechts gekrümmt sind. Vier weitere, etwas kürzere und stärker gebogene Röhren treten an der Unterseite der Wolkenfläche hervor. Der linke Rand der Wolke verdeckt eine vertikal verlaufende Struktur. Sie ist zum linken Blattrand hin gebogen und erinnert an ein Bündel von dünnen Bambushalmen. Senkrecht verlaufende kurze Schriftzeichenfolgen sind um die Abbildung gruppiert. Rote gerade Linien führen von den schwarzen Schriftzeichen zu den Röhren und dem Zentrum der Wolke. In ihrem linken Bereich verlaufen Schriftzeichen in einem Bogen. Blatt "B" auf der rechten Seite ist weiß, die Zeichnung darauf schwarz. Auf ihr fehlen die vier nach unten austretenden Röhren. Der Strang ist als eine nach links geschwungene Linie dargestellt. Auf ihr sitzen in regelmäßigen Abständen nahe beieinander u-förmige Gebilde. Der Strang ist durch Verästelungen mit der linken der oben austretenden Röhren verbunden. Es gibt keine Verbindungslinien von den Schriftzeichen zu den Röhren und zum Zentrum der Wolke. Die Manuskripte werden im Nationalarchiv Japans in Tokyo aufbewahrt. — — The Sea of Qi and the Diaphragm Pictured side by side are two manuscripts from Japan. The one on the left is coloured and approximately one and a half times as large as the one on the right. Both pages show the same anatomical object but in different sizes and shapes. Sheet "A" on the left is yellowed and slightly wavy. In its centre is a cloud-shaped pink area with a distinct border. A red stripe borders it at its curved edges at the bottom and on the right. Within the cloud is a demarcated oval centre, partially coloured red. Three brown-grey tubes rise from it, curving slightly to the right. Four more, slightly shorter and more curved tubes emerge from the underside of the cloud surface. The left edge of the cloud hides a vertically running structure. It is curved towards the left edge of the page and is reminiscent of a bundle of thin bamboo stalks. Vertical short strings of characters are grouped around the image. Red straight lines lead from the black characters to the tubes and the centre of the cloud. In its left area, characters run in an arc. Sheet "B" on the right is white and the drawing on it is black. It lacks the four tubes that emerge downwards. The strand is depicted as a line curving to the left. U-shaped structures sit on it at regular intervals close to each other. The strand is connected by branches to the left of the tubes that emerge at the top. There are no connecting lines from the characters to the tubes or the centre of the cloud. The manuscripts are kept in the National Archives of Japan in Tokyo.
