Die geometrische Darstellung des Stomachion-Diagramms — Das quadratische Blatt ist in geometrische Figuren, meist Dreiecke, unterteilt. Das Blatt ist mit einem 12x12 Gitternetz versehen, das mit feinen schwarzen gestrichelten Linien ausgeführt ist. Das Gitternetz besteht also aus 144 Quadraten. Vor diesen Hintergrund bilden durchgehende, breitere und schwarze Linien die geometrischen Figuren. Vier Linien durchschneiden die gesamte Fläche des quadratischen Blatts. Eine vertikale Senkrechte halbiert es in zwei Rechtecke. Diese wiederum werden durch Diagonalen in je zwei rechtwinklige Dreiecke geteilt. Im Rechteck links verläuft die Diagonale von links unten nach rechts oben, im Rechteck rechts von rechts unten nach links oben. Eine weitere Linie verläuft diagonal von links oben nach rechts unten über das quadratische Blatt. Sie schneidet die Diagonale im linken Rechteck und die vertikale Senkrechte. Außerdem teilt sie das Quadrat in zwei gleichschenklige Dreiecke. Die rechten Winkel dieser Dreiecke befinden sich links unten und rechts oben. Kürzere Linien unterteilen die so entstandenen Dreiecke in weitere unregelmäßige Dreiecke, zwei unregelmäßige Vierecke und ein unregelmäßiges Fünfeck. Sowohl in den beiden Rechtecken als auch in den beiden gleichschenkligen Dreiecken befinden sich sieben geometrische Figuren. —— The geometric representation of the Stomachion diagram — The square sheet is divided into geometric figures, mostly triangles. The sheet has a 12x12 grid with fine black dotted lines. The grid thus consists of 144 squares. Overlaid on this grid background, there are continuous, broader, and black lines that form the geometric figures. Four lines cut through the entire surface of the square sheet. A vertical perpendicular line divides it into two rectangles. These, in turn, are divided by diagonal lines into two right-angled triangles each. In the rectangle on the left, the diagonal runs from the bottom left to the top right. In the rectangle on the right, the diagonal runs from the bottom right to the top left. Across the entire square sheet, another line runs diagonally from the top left to the bottom right. It intersects the diagonal in the left rectangle and the vertical perpendicular. It also divides the entire square sheet into two isosceles triangles. The right angles of these triangles are at the bottom left and top right. Shorter lines divide the triangles, thus creating further irregular triangles, two irregular squares, and an irregular pentagon. There are seven geometric figures in both of the two rectangles and the two isosceles triangles.

This image reproduces the Graeco-Roman stomachion square according to the proportions provided by a 17th c. manuscript in the collection of the German National Library in Berlin, which conveys the Arabic translation of part of an ancient Greek treatise on geometry attributed to Archimedes, the Stomachion. The edition of the texts contained in the manuscript with German translation from Arabic was prepared in 1899 by the German philologist Heinrich Suter.
