Darstellung einer Frau (f. 15v) mit der Lage von Blutgefäßen und inneren Organen Dieses Blatt ist Teil einer Handschrift, die in der Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts im Iran entstand. Sie war das erste originale anatomische Werk aus einem islamischen Land. Besonders hervorzuheben ist die Darstellung eines weiblichen Körpers, die in der europäischen Ausgabe der Fünfbilderserie fehlt. Die Zeichnung der weiblichen Figur füllt nahezu den gesamten Bildraum. Dass es sich um die Darstellung einer Frau handelt ist lediglich daran zu erkennen, dass eine Gebärmutter mit Fötus eingezeichnet ist. Einen weiteren Hinweis darauf geben die sehr langen schwarzen Haare, die bis über die Hüfte reichen. Ihre Struktur ähnelt der der Blutgefäße, die als dünne rote Linien wie ein Netz alle sichtbaren Körperteile bedecken. Die füllige Frauengestalt steht breitbeinig mit gebeugten Knien, auf die ihre Hände gestützt sind. Der Oberkörper ist aufgerichtet. Im runden Gesicht sind die schmalen Augen in Schwarz gestaltet, der Mund in Rot. Im Torso sind unter anderem die Speiseröhre, das Herz und die Verdauungsorgane abgebildet. Oberhalb des ockergelben Darms liegt die hellrot abgesetzte Gebärmutter. Sie ist ringförmig dargestellt. In ihr ist in Weiß der Fötus erkennbar, dessen Arm um die angewinkelten Knie geschlungen ist. Seine Haare sind schwarz. Um den Fötus herum ist ebenfalls in Hellrot das Fruchtwasser dargestellt. Mansur ibn Ilyas war als Arzt im 14. und 15. Jahrhundert in Persien, dem heutigen Iran, tätig. Der Titel des Werkes, aus dem diese Illustration entnommen ist, könnte man etwa mit „Der Bau des menschlichen Körpers“ übersetzen. — — Depiction of a Woman (f. 15v) with the Location of Blood Vessels and Internal Organs This sheet is part of a manuscript produced in Iran in the middle of the 14th century. It was the first original anatomical work from an Islamic country. Of particular note is the depiction of a female body, which is missing from the European edition of the five-picture series. The drawing of the female figure fills almost the entire pictorial space. That it is a depiction of a woman can only be recognised by the fact that a uterus with a foetus is drawn in. Another clue is given by the very long black hair, which reaches down to the hips. The structure of the hair is similar to that of the blood vessels, which cover all visible parts of the body. The blood vessels are thin red lines reminiscent of a net. The plump female figure stands wide-legged with bent knees on which her hands are supported. The upper part of the body is erect. Her round face has narrow black eyes and a red mouth. In the torso, the oesophagus, the heart, and the digestive organs, among others, are depicted. Above the ochre-yellow intestine is the uterus in light red. It is depicted in the shape of a ring. In it, the foetus can be seen in white, its arm wrapped around the bent knees. Its hair is black. Around the foetus, the amniotic fluid is also depicted in light red. Mansur ibn Ilyas was active as a physician in the 14th and 15th centuries in Persia, today's Iran. The title of the work from which this illustration is taken could be roughly translated as “The Construction of the Human Body.”

Anonym, K. Sharḥ al-Maqāma al-Ṣalāḥiyya fī l-Khayl wa-al-Bayṭāra, über Pferde und Rache Die Darstellung aus dem 13. Jahrhundert präsentiert die Ansicht eines Pferdekörpers mit seinen Eingeweiden, dazu Text in arabischen Schriftzeichen. Kurze Bezeichnungen an einzelnen Körperteilen lassen an deren Benennung denken. Das Bild zeigt die Silhouette des Pferdes zweidimensional, vergleichbar mit der Modellvorlage auf einem Bastelbogen. Die rot ausgemalten Beine mit den braunen Hufen sind links und rechts seitlich vom Körper weggestreckt. Am ebenfalls rot gestalteten Kopf sind links und rechts die spitzen Ohren, Augen und ein Maul mit Nüstern auszumachen. Den Kopf umläuft unter dem Hals hindurch ein goldfarbener Ring, der an einen Heiligenschein erinnert. Der Schweif ragt senkrecht in die untere Bildhälfte. Er ist, wie die übrige Körperfläche, in einem kräftigen Rot gehalten. Auf der Körperfläche sind innere Organe wie Herz, Lunge, Milz und Darm dargestellt. Das Herz befindet sich mittig darauf. Es hat nahezu die Form eines menschlichen Herzens. Zu seinen beiden Seiten erstrecken sich längliche Ovale bis zum Ansatz der Vorderbeine. Links, unterhalb des Herzens, liegt ein kleineres blaues Oval. Weiße Umrisse grenzen die einzelnen inneren Organe voneinander ab. Rund um die Illustration sind auf dem hellen Untergrund goldfarbene runde Scheiben verteilt, deren Ränder von schwarzen Punkten umlaufen werden. Links oben auf dem Hochformat verlaufen acht Textzeilen senkrecht. Das Blatt müsste um 90° gedreht werden, um sie zu lesen. In der rechten oberen Ecke sind zwei in Rot geschriebene waagerecht verlaufende Zeilen platziert. — — Anonymous, K. Sharḥ al-Maqāma al-Ṣalāḥiyya fī l-Khayl wa-al-Bayṭāra, on Horses and Revenge This 13th-century depiction presents a view of a horse's body with its entrails, accompanied by text in Arabic characters. Short descriptions near individual parts of the body suggest their naming. The photo shows a two-dimensional silhouette of a horse, reminiscent of a model template on a handicraft sheet. The red legs with brown hooves are stretched out to the left and right sides of the body. Also painted red are the pointed ears, eyes and muzzle with nostrils which are placed on both sides of the head. A golden ring, reminiscent of a halo, runs around the head and under the neck. The red-painted tail projects vertically into the lower half of the picture. Internal organs such as the heart, lungs, spleen, and intestines are depicted on the body's surface. The heart is in the centre. It has a shape similar to that of a human heart. On both sides, elongated ovals extend to the base of the front legs. On the left, below the heart, is a smaller blue oval. White outlines delineate the individual internal organs. Around the illustration, gold-coloured round discs are distributed on a light-coloured background, their edges encircled by black dots. At the top left of the portrait format, eight lines of text run vertically. The sheet would require a 90-degree turn to read them. In the upper right corner, there are two horizontal lines of text written in red.

Eine weibliche Figur mit offenem Torso Die bräunlich-graue Statue ohne Kopf wurde 1885 in Mittelitalien, südöstlich von Rom ausgegraben. Sie stammt aus der Zeit zwischen dem 4. und 2. Jahrhundert vor Christus. Die Figur aus Terrakotta ist 26,5 Zentimeter hoch. Neben dem Kopf fehlen die linke Schulter und die Füße. Trotz des Verlustes dieser Körperteile lässt sich eine aufrechte Haltung erkennen. Die Frauengestalt scheint auf ihrem rechten Bein zu stehen, das linke ist etwas angewinkelt. Der rechte Arm hängt am Körper herab, vom linken ist der Unterarm erhalten, der in die Hüfte gestützt ist. Der Torso ist in ein fließendes knöchellanges Gewand gehüllt. An der Schulter, um die Hüften und zum Knöchel hin ist es üppig gefaltet. Der rechte Arm ist bis zum Ellenbogen bedeckt. Ein vertikal verlaufender ovaler Ausschnitt zieht sich vom Brustbein bis zur Scham. Darin sind die inneren Organe sichtbar. Ein senkrecht stehender Quader unterhalb des Brustbeins bezeichnet das Herz. Ein würfelförmiges Gebilde darunter stellt den Magen dar. An der breitesten Stelle, in der Mitte des Ausschnitts, befindet sich der waagerecht verlaufende Darm. Seine senkrecht angeordneten Schlingen füllen das gesamte Zentrum aus. Unterhalb des Darms liegen weitere Organe wie die Nieren. Die Statue war vermutlich eine Opfergabe, verbunden mit der Heilung erkrankter Organe oder stand im Zusammenhang mit dem Wunsch nach Fruchtbarkeit. — — A Female Figure with an Open Torso This brownish-grey statue without a head was excavated in 1885 in central Italy, southeast of Rome. It dates from the period between the 4th and 2nd centuries BC. The terracotta figure is 26.5 centimetres high. Besides the head, the left shoulder and the feet are also missing. Despite the loss of these body parts, an upright posture can be discerned. The female figure appears to be standing on her right leg and the left leg is slightly bent. The right arm hangs down the body, and the forearm of the left arm is preserved, supported on the hip. The torso is wrapped in a flowing ankle-length robe. It is luxuriantly folded at the shoulder, around the hips and towards the ankle. The right arm is covered up to the elbow. There is a vertical oval-shaped cutout that runs from the breastbone to the pubic region. The internal organs are visible within it. There is a vertically upright cuboid below the sternum indicating the heart. A cube-shaped structure below it indicates the stomach. There is a horizontally running intestine in the middle of the cutout at its widest point. Its vertically arranged loops fill the entire centre. Below the intestine are other organs such as the kidneys. It is probable that the statue was a votive offering associated with the healing of diseased organs or was related to the desire for fertility.
